This year I have had the honour of co-facilitating weekly singing for wellbeing sessions with Michelle Byrne, working with a beautiful group of women from all walks of life. The women’s singing group “The Harmony Weavers” has been created to provide a safe space for women to share and enjoy the benefits of music and meaningful connection.

Our singing sessions are leading toward a community performance ‘Rock Your Sole’ on Saturday November 18th 2017. We are all excited about this concert, and hope you can come along and make a donation to Hutt St Centre, and enjoy the show for the afternoon. See you there for this lovely day of community, connection, and celebration.

Music and the Mind: Heather joins a panel on mental health in the music industry

I am truly delighted to be part of this panel discussing the important topic of mental health in the music industry. The APRA workshop is being held on Tuesday May 30th in Adelaide, please come join us!

This workshop is presented by APRA AMCOS and also another very important organisation Support Act. In fact if you have any spare change this week and would like to make a donation to Support Act, it is a very worthy cause > visit their website here.

Music and the Mind: a panel on mental health

Recent research has shown that there’s a high incidence of depression and anxiety among musicians. With low pay, unreliable work, bullying, stress and other factors all playing a part, keeping your head in check can often be a huge challenge – as can finding support when you need it the most.

To open up discussion about mental health, we’re bringing together a few people for a frank chat about maintaining a healthy – and creative – mind. Lead by Sally Howland (Support Act), the panel will feature psychologist Denni Meredith (ClinPsych Pty Ltd), GP Dr. Jessica Vandekamp (Flinders University Health Service) and artist Heather Frahn. They’ll look at how we can identify mental illness and the steps we can take to support ourselves and others.

Presented by APRA AMCOS and Support Act.

Venue: The Jade Monkey 142-160 Flinders Street Adelaide

“Touch and Go” showing in Dream Big Festival May 2017

Over the winter months in 2016 I travelled a lot with the Sally Chance Dance Company performing our new work “Touch & Go”.

Touch and Go is an interactive performance game for 2-year olds with Sally Chance, Stephen Noonan, Felecia Hick, and me.

Touring last year I had a wonderful time, and feel excited about this show and how every time we perform it the children help create something different and unique with our set of masking tape!

Photo features backstage happy times at ArtPlay in Melbourne with the Sally Chance Dance Company, the world premier of “Touch & Go” in May 2016, followed by another season in the ‘Out of The Box’ festival in Brisbane in June.

*NEWS*
THIS YEAR in 2017, Touch & Go will be showing in the DREAM BIG FESTIVAL, in ADELAIDE!
Spread the word to your friends with children aged 2 years 😀

I am honoured to be performing as live musician in the new work Sally Chance Dance called “Touch & Go” for children aged 2 years. The show is touring to Melbourne and Brisbane!

Calling all two-year old children and their adults!

From the team that brought the hugely popular This [Baby] Life and Nursery to past Out of the Box festivals comes a brand new performance work, Touch & Go – a dancing game of cause and effect, carefully created for this curious and hands-on age group.

Touch & Go is dedicated to the mighty two year old, inviting them to enter a special world with two friendly dancers, shapes, pathways and live music. Interspersed with playful enticements to become part of the performance, children are free to take part or observe, venture out or stay close, touch and go – just as they need to.

FURTHER INFORMATION

Touch & Go is an interactive dance theatre work with live music specifically made for 2-year-old children and their parents, grandparents and carers.

The work is performed by 3 performers in an interactive designed space which is alive and responsive.

The show is not suitable for children younger than 24 months or older than 36 months.

Each child must have a participating carer with them within the performance. If the child attends with two adults, one of the adults is designated “accompanying”, and is seated within the space to observe. The participating carer is involved with the child in the show in a series of relaxed and specific playful invitations.

Throughout the show, the performers request that participating carers support their child’s experience. This may involve sitting closely to their child as well as letting the child explore, discussing the show with the child, encouraging their attention and taking care of the child’s security within the performance space.
